Family Guide to Distance Learning
Guiding Statement
At Fuente Nueva we recognize that every learner learns differently every day. This sounds twisted, but really it is simply recognizing that we have to be physically, mentally and emotionally ready to learn. In this time of a global pandemic, we understand that some days both children and parents will be able to engage and support student learning more than other days. Learning will be unique in each home.
What will learning look like?
Parents and/or students will receive an email on Monday mornings with the link to their grade level website where you can find:
- Weekly newsletter for parents and students
- List of weekly assignments and appropriate links to access necessary support
- A calendar that has zoom meeting links
- A link to a school wide calendar with all zoom meetings listed
What should I help my student prioritize?
Prioritize learning based on the order of items in the 3-way agreement, or described in THIS video. Weekly schedules are set up to help students and families determine what to prioritize if time and technology are limited. Opportunities to connect in real-time allow teachers and classmates to support one another’s social-emotional needs, as well as academic ones.
How will my student be assessed and graded?
Given the uncertainty and the stressors of this time, we are prioritizing the following:
- Keeping students learning and growing through engagement, encouragement, and follow-up.
- Being flexible given the challenges of this moment. Assignments with due dates are encouraged to be met, not required.
- Teachers will aim to provide meaningful feedback as appropriate to the assignment
- At the end of the year students, parents and teachers will reflect on the success and challenges during distance learning.
- Trimester 3 grades are still under discussion. We will share more when we are able. There will most likely not be formal traditional grades for trimester 3.
How can I best support my student?
This is a complicated and challenging time for families. Honor your family’s needs by prioritizing health, safety, and emotional well-being. Beyond that, help your child establish a routine that works in your household and access their school resources.
